I have to agree the ATS Pan is a way better unit than the AFE unit! Thank you Ryan and ATS! After a few minutes on Facebook and Matt expressing his dislike Ryan Gelinas from ATS sent over a ATS Deep pan to replace the AFE unit. I had sent an AFE deep Trans pan over to be used but Matt Kauffman was not impressed. Keep in mind that I use this truck for towing and daily driving, not a Race Truck/Sled Puller so the inputs the new modified Sprag and all the other High HP parts weren't needed. They inspected everything and found that the Pump was the cause of the metallic Particles and that the clutches were fine so no need for a complete rebuild.ĭiesel Performance Converters Triple Disc 68 Converter This is where a little luck worked out in my favor. The crew at Firepunk jumped on it and pulled the trans., I expecting the worst. I was fortunate enough to have a spare truck that I could use so that they could have the truck to as long as they needed it. Lavon and his crew took the truck back to Plain City, Oh. When I dropped the pan I found that the spin on was tight, the pan filter was dirty and that there was quite a bit of metallic particles in the pan itself. Not cool.So I cleaned it up and put it all back together, and contacted Lavon Miller and Phil Taylor at Diesel Performance Converters. ![]() I decided dropped the pan to replace the filters and do a general once over. Would shift down extremely quick when it got in a strain in higher gears.ģ: But still drove fine for the most part.Īfter doing some research on the internet, the common cause for this seemed to be a loose spin on filter, causing the trans to loose line pressure. Had a delay when shifting between Park, Drive, and Reverse.Ģ. Truck has 200K miles and he says they are notorious for stretching and causing issues. My adventure started several months ago with my 68 doing some weird things.ġ. $50 I'm not spending with him vs $200-250 for VB work seems to want to help me a lot IMPO. So I called the shop that did my trans yesterday to get a quote on that and he wants me to replace the adjustment cable first. He said that the guy was correct that they could change spring in the VB to help the issue. I called Dunrite yesterday, very nice and helpful. My converter is only a single disk, have no clue on stall. They did a trans in a buddy's truck who pulls 2.6 with me and he made it almost all year on stock shafts. First auto always had sticks before only bought this one because my buddy dropped major $ on a good rebuild. Yes, I could hit the OD button, but I shouldn't have to that's why I'm trying to track down the issue.Īs far as when the TC is supposed to lock & unlock I'm clueless please school me. I haven't gotten to tow anything since I put the Quadzilla on. I could only tow on lvl 2 w/o Egt's getting hot. Well with the Edge Juice I had I don't doubt I was running out of power. This is the only quirk I do not like about the truck someone please tell me how to fix it?! Went to my local dealer today and the tech (who wasn't much older than me & I'm 26) said that it sounded like something was wrong with my truck?! It would cause it to shift 1,2,3,4th and then lock the TC but I've forgotten about what he said about the DS but that it would fix my problem. I have spoke with Seth Sullivan of Sullivan diesel and he says their is a reflash from Dodge that will change the way it shifts. I have spoke with the shop that did the trans and they built the VB to be that way :confused013: and that all they have to do is change a spring in it and it will down shift higher? 3.55 gears 2500-2700 rpms with 13,000lbs isn't going anywhere quickly. When I hit a hill loaded or unloaded the truck pulls all the way down to 1300-1400RPMs before it unlocks the TC and shifts down to 3rd which makes the R's jump to 2500-2700. My issue is this the truck upshifts 1, 2, 3, TC locks, & then 4th gear. The trans has a HD rebuild from a local reputable shop that my mechanic even had them build one for his personal truck. ![]() The only complaint I have about the truck is concerning the transmission downshifting from 4th to 3rd. Ok I LOVE my 99 I've put 9,000 miles on it in 5 months half of that was hauling my puller all over KY.
